IV Home Care Competency Questions and Skills Checklist for Nurses

Developed by the KHHA IV Committee, this document is a tool to assist the agency in assuring that staff is knowledgeable and clinically competent in high-risk, high tech areas. This competency test includes 74 multiple choice and short answer questions, some designed for specific agency policy. In addition, a one-page skills checklist covers aspects of IV nursing practice. Specific areas covered in the test include: total parenteral nutrition, pain management, antibiotics, fluids and electrolytes, line maintenance, mathematical calculations, as well as peripheral, central line, and administration techniques.

The National Association for Home Care has published its 3rd edition of their Provider's Guide to the Medicare Home Health Certification Process. A Guide to Pediatric Services

Created by the Pediatric Services Committee of KHHA, this guide is designed to facilitate access of younger clients into the child and adolescent service delivery system. The guide discusses admission criteria for Model II Waiver; Hospice; Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment Program; Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs; local school districts; First Steps; and home health. Home Monitoring in Infants with Apnea and Related Conditions

This document was produced and distributed by the Kentucky Apnea Monitor Task Force convened by KHHA's Pediatric Services Committee. This consensus statement is endorsed by the Kentucky Medical Association, Kentucky Pediatric Society and the Kentucky Perinatal Association. The publication offers guidance on the home management of infants who require apnea monitoring for all health care professionals. The printing and distribution of this consensus statement was made possible through the financial and in-kind support of the March of Dimes; Health Kentucky; the Kentucky Division of Maternal and Child Health, Cabinet for Health Services and the Kentucky Home Health Association.

Kentucky Home Health Compensation Survey and Appendices

This report contains results of the 1994 survey of home health agencies and hospices in Kentucky. The survey was a joint effort by the Kentucky Home Health Association and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. The purpose was to provide an overview of salaries and benefits of home care employees; to indicate the status of educational levels of home care employees; and to identify key employment issues in home care in Kentucky. The Appendices include additional detail giving minimum, maximum and averages. They also include personnel profiles for nursing and other staff positions.

Resource Guide for Quality Improvement in Home Care and Related Supplements

Prepared by the KHHA QA Committee, this document is designed to assist home health professionals identify resources which will help in developing and refining quality assurance and quality improvement programs within their agencies. The basic Resource Guide contains an overview of steps in developing a QA Program, results of a survey of home care quality assurance reference materials and annotated bibliographies.

The supplements contain outcome expectations, a teaching guide using these discharge outcome guidelines which may be adapted for use by agencies, sample monitors, references and resources for additional materials. Additional supplements are being developed.

Case Management Protocol - Home Infusion Therapy

The protocol was prepared by a subcommittee of the Medicaid Home Health Technical Advisory Committee as a guide to the management of a patient receiving infusion therapy at home. It sets forth criteria and guidelines for the safe institution, maintenance and termination of infusion therapy in the home setting. Specific information is given on the roles of the physician, home health agency and pharmacy in the administration of fluids, medication, blood components and nutritional products.

Outcome-Based Quality Improvement: A Manual for Home Care Agencies on How to Use Outcomes

Patient outcomes are central to quality assurance and quality improvements issues. This manual provides a roadmap for instituting outcome-based quality improvement (OBQI) in your agency. Based upon research conducted by the Colorado Center for Health Policy and Services Research in Denver with funding by HCFA and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, authors Peter Shaughnessey, PhD and Kathryn Crisler, MS, RN, provide a practical guide to the OBQI process. HCFA OASIS Outcome and ASsessment Information Set Implementation Manual 1999.

This manual is for use by home health agencies implementing the Outcome and ASessment Information Set (OASIS) as part of their patient-specific comprehensive assessment. This implementation is occuring in the context of a modification to the Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs) promulgated by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) in two new rules. The manual is expressly written for HHA agency staff who will be implementing the use of OASIS as a uniform core data set for patient assessment and outcome measurement followed by computerization and reporting of OASIS data to the State agency.
